Kanzan Nibis

Description

A hybrid born of the Gum and Maple Nibis, the Kanzan Nibis is a medium-sized bird with striking plumage that blends the qualities of both parents. Its body is slender and upright, supported by long, narrow legs and ending in sharp talons. The plumage is patterned in deep magenta and soft cream tones, accented by darker feathers along the wings and tail. Its wings are broad and elegant, the feathers elongated and sweeping outward in layered fans. The long tail feathers curve downward and end in pale tips marked with small, rounded spots. Its crest rises into a sharp, flowing crown, while the beak is elongated and curved, giving the bird a refined yet fierce appearance.

Behaviour

Nibis display a protective type of temperament. They are highly territorial and will guard their nesting grounds fiercely, especially during breeding seasons. These animals live close to open water sources such as marshes and river deltas, where they construct large nests out of dirt and leaves. Their protective nature means that while they may not actively seek confrontation, they will not hesitate to ward off any intruders if they feel their territory is being threatened.

Building trust

  1. Hostile

A hostile Nibis guards its stretch of water and drives off anything that comes close. Only a Nibis Snack will tempt it - leave one at the edge of its territory and withdraw.

  2. Cautious

It tolerates you near the shallows now, though it still puts itself between you and its nest. Hand it a Nibis Snack directly; the same treat offered this way is worth far more than one left in the mud.

  3. Neutral

A neutral Nibis lets you come within arm's reach without bristling. Start stroking it - touch now builds trust several times faster than any treat.

  4. Warm

A warm Nibis no longer treats you as a threat to its nesting ground. No new gesture opens up at this stage - petting remains by far the fastest way to deepen the bond.

  5. Friendly

A friendly Nibis will leave the water to follow you. Keep it at your side and lead it back to a nest to make the bond permanent.

Recipe

Artificial nest & breeding

After completing the animal research, you can build an artificial nest for this animal family and house animals that follow you there.

Bring together a male and female from the same family but different species in an artificial nest. Insert the matching family pheromone into the dispenser, then give the animals time and privacy.

Animal camera & research

  1. Place an animal camera near a natural animal nest.
  2. Wait until data collection is complete.
  3. This updates the behaviour and fauna information.
  4. The research provides the basis for this animal family’s artificial nest.
