Thessalika Zhalo

Description

The Thessalika Zhalo is a large ungulate mammal with a massive, muscular body built for strength and endurance. Its coat is pale beige with irregular darker patches, while a thick mane of coarse, dark brown fur covers the neck and shoulders, giving it an imposing silhouette when viewed head-on. The head is broad and heavy, with a single curved horn in the middle of its forehead. Its limbs are short but powerful, ending in blunt hooves adapted for steady movement across open terrain. The tail is long and whip-like, with a tuft of darker fur at the tip.

Behaviour

Zhalos display a protective temperament. They are large and powerful animals, thriving in open, wide grassland spaces of the Thessalika region, where their presence is hard to overlook. Known for their strong sense of kinship, they remain deeply bound to their groups and will not hesitate to defend them with unwavering force. Though imposing in size, they prefer simplicity in their habitats, often resting on open grass or leaf beds beneath the cover of lush trees. Their protective nature has also earned them a reputation as guardians of the land, and their affinity for flowers often draws them to blooming fields where they feel most at ease.

Building trust

  1. Hostile

A hostile Zhalo is too large to argue with and will drive you off its grassland outright. Leave a Zhalo Snack on the ground at a distance and retreat - nothing offered up close will be taken.

  2. Cautious

It lets you share the same stretch of grass now. Offer a Zhalo Snack from your hand - handed over directly, the same treat is worth far more than one left in the grass.

  3. Neutral

A neutral Zhalo lowers its head within your reach. Stroke it - touch now builds trust many times faster than any treat could.

  4. Warm

A warm Zhalo counts you as part of its herd and stays near you in the open. No new gesture opens up at this stage - petting remains by far the fastest way to deepen the bond.

  5. Friendly

A friendly Zhalo will leave its herd to walk with you. Keep it at your side and lead it back to a nest to make the bond permanent.
